“You know, I realized that what I thought to myself a few weeks ago had been right,” Gilbert said to you as you sat on top of his bed, looking through his photo album that contained pictures of the both of you when you were smaller.
You looked up at him to where he was sitting at his desk with his chair turned around so that he was facing you. “What was it?”
It was the day before the last day of school, and since no homework had been given, you decided to visit Gilbert’s apartment to spend most of the afternoon there. Between the time when you had yelled at him and now, you had showed him your house and he got the chance to meet your parents once again. You saved his phone number in case you ever wanted to call him, and he received yours as well. However, you didn’t tell your parents about the fact that he had been the one who had bullied you, since you didn’t need a happy reunion to be shattered because of this secret you decided to keep.
You also found out that Gilbert’s family had been having financial problems, so they had to move from their old house in the town which you previously lived in to an apartment in the city that was closer to your home. You met his parents once again and pretty soon, both families were in contact with each other just like they had been before the two of you had to part.
Now you were sitting in Gilbert’s room, talking with him about past memories the both of you shared. You had found a photo album that contained pictures of the both of you as little kids hidden deep inside one of the drawers of his slightly disorganized desk and were now actively looking through it, smiling at past moments that you had never forgotten.
You were able to see a smirk come to Gilbert’s face as he stood up from the chair and walked over to you, sitting down next to you on the bed and looking at you genuinely. “I was looking at a picture of us from our childhood, and I thought about how pretty you looked. And I wondered that if I ever got the chance to see you again, you would be even more beautiful than you were when we were kids. And I was right.”
You felt a blush instantly come to your face as you looked up at him with slightly wide eyes, the smirk on his face widening at your embarrassed reaction. “I-I...” You somehow found that you were unable to speak, but you never got the chance to before Gilbert leaned forward and gave you a quick kiss on the cheek.
“H-Hey!” you shrieked, instantly giving him a fierce shove and causing him to nearly fall back onto the bed. You were aware of how deeply red your face was, and that only added to the mortification you felt. “What was that for!?”
Gilbert chuckled as he looked at you with a playful smirk on his face. “Just an apology.”
You stared at him in silence for a few moments before you felt your embarrassment return. When it felt like your face couldn't have gotten any redder, you let out a growl. “You idiot!” you cried, repeatedly hitting him weakly in the chest with your fists and causing his amusement to only increase. “You're so annoying!”
“Don’t say that,” Gilbert teased. “I know that you secretly enjoyed it.”
You briefly stopped hitting him and looked at him with wide eyes and a slightly open mouth. “I did not enjoy it!” you cried, smacking him on the shoulder. “God, I hate you so much!”
“Aw, come on, _____,” Gilbert said, grasping both of your wrists and getting up into a proper sitting position. He looked down to meet your flustered gaze and smiled. “I know you don’t mean it.”
“W-Well...maybe I don’t,” you muttered, drifting your gaze off to one side and crossing your arms. “But you better not do it again!”
“I never said I wasn't going to do it again,” Gilbert smirked, and when you looked up at him, you saw that he had his lips puckered and was tapping his finger repeatedly against them, looking down at you expectantly.
This caused your eyes to widen and a deep blush to immediately make its way back to your face once again, and it didn’t take you long to find the nearest pillow available and throw it violently at his face. “Augh, Gilbert, you're so stupid!”
You already knew that you were looking forward to a very enjoyable summer with Gilbert by your side, even though he got on your nerves sometimes. Also, an enjoyable senior year of high school, and definitely many more enjoyable moments after that. You were most likely never going to forget about the bullying that he had done to you, but by this point it had become a thing of the past. Now, when you saw and talked with Gilbert, you no longer thought of him as the person who had caused you so many problems throughout most of your high school years, but the person who was your friend ever since you were a small child, and the person whose memories you held on to for the rest of your life.
